The post highlights beaches, private retreats, dining and space to relax. It is an official MSC update, although outside of the Instagram post, MSC hasn’t shared more details as of September 28.
A New Milestone for Sandy Cay
The island itself is not a new announcement. MSC Group introduced Sandy Cay on April 13, 2026, describing a destination next to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve for MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys guests.
Today’s post marks the groundbreaking milestone and repeats the 2028 opening plan. It does not give a specific opening date or establish when the first construction work began.
What the Rendering Suggests
The rendering offers a closer look at the island’s proposed layout, though it should not be treated as a final map of its facilities.
Several boats appear near docking areas, suggesting a role for boat access. The image alone, however, does not confirm whether guests will transfer from Ocean Cay or how those transfers would operate.
Broad beach coves, landscaped paths and several larger buildings are also visible. Smaller structures sit near the beaches, but their functions are not identified in the post. Calling them cabanas or spa treatment areas would be speculation at this stage.
MSC’s references to dining and private retreats give us an idea of the experience it intends to offer. The details of those venues remain something to watch for.
What Cruisers Should Watch For
The Instagram announcement does not spell out which sailings will include Sandy Cay, how guests will reach it, or what access will cost. It also does not confirm Yacht Club-only access. Describing the island as a luxury destination does not, by itself, establish who will be eligible to visit.
