MSC Orchestra offers a good example of how MSC Cruises is giving some of its older, mid-sized ships a new life.
The ship entered service in 2007 as the second vessel in MSC’s Musica Class, following MSC Musica and preceding MSC Poesia and MSC Magnifica.
At around 92,000 gross tons with a maximum capacity of just over 3,200 passengers, Orchestra is considerably smaller than MSC’s newest ships. You will not find enormous indoor promenades, giant waterparks, bumper cars or sprawling entertainment districts.
Instead, Orchestra offers a more traditional cruise experience built around pools, lounges, live entertainment, dining, outdoor decks and destination-focused itineraries.
And beginning in March 2027, that traditional experience receives a major upgrade.
MSC Orchestra is scheduled for an extensive refurbishment that will add a 63-suite MSC Yacht Club, Butcher’s Cut steakhouse, Kaito Sushi Bar, a redesigned MSC Aurea Spa and an upgraded MSC Gym powered by Technogym.
The new configuration officially begins with the March 13, 2027 sailing from Bari, Italy.
For cruisers who prefer a manageable mid-sized ship but still want access to some of MSC’s newer premium features, Orchestra could become one of the more interesting choices in the fleet.

Older sources may show slightly different numbers because the ship’s configuration changes as part of the 2027 refurbishment.
What Makes MSC Orchestra Different?
MSC Orchestra is the second ship in the four-vessel Musica Class.
Passengers familiar with MSC Musica, MSC Poesia or MSC Magnifica will immediately recognize the basic design.
The ship follows a fairly traditional layout.
Most restaurants, bars, lounges, shops, the casino and theater are concentrated on the lower public decks. Passenger cabins dominate the middle of the ship, while pools, the buffet, spa, fitness facilities and children’s areas are located higher up.
There is no central indoor promenade.
There are no massive themed neighborhoods.
That makes Orchestra fairly easy to understand compared with ships like MSC World America or MSC Seashore.
The experience is also more destination-focused.
A typical day might involve spending most of the morning and afternoon exploring Athens, Istanbul or Corfu before returning for dinner, a theater show, drinks and live music.
For some passengers, that is exactly what they want from a European cruise.
But the biggest change to MSC Orchestra comes in 2027.
Once its refurbishment is complete, Orchestra will offer many of the premium features found aboard considerably newer MSC ships without dramatically changing the size and overall character of the vessel.
MSC Orchestra’s 2027 Refurbishment
Passengers should pay close attention to their sailing date when researching MSC Orchestra.
Cruises through March 12, 2027 use the older ship configuration.
The new configuration officially begins March 13, 2027.

MSC describes the project as a major dry-dock refurbishment and says Orchestra and Musica will complete the rollout of Yacht Club across the entire Musica Class.
This distinction matters when looking at reviews or YouTube ship tours.
An Orchestra video filmed in 2025 can still provide a very good idea of the ship’s overall atmosphere and layout, but several dining, spa, fitness and upper-deck areas will change.
MSC’s own website has already begun displaying the post-refurbishment restaurants and Yacht Club alongside existing venues, even though those additions do not become available until March 2027.
MSC Orchestra Layout
MSC Orchestra has 16 numbered decks, with most passenger public spaces located from Deck 5 upward.
The decks are named after musical instruments, continuing the musical theme found throughout the ship.
Deck 5 is Pianoforte.
Deck 6 is Violino.
Deck 7 is Saxofono.
Decks 8 through 12 are Arpa, Viola, Lira, Flauto and Clarinetto.
The upper decks are Mandolino, Chitarra, Xilofono and Sport.
Most of the major indoor public venues are on Decks 5 through 7.

MSC Orchestra offers interior, ocean-view and balcony cabins along with suites.
After March 13, 2027, the lineup will also include four MSC Yacht Club categories.

Deluxe Balcony cabins are approximately 161 square feet with balconies around 54 square feet.
Premium Balcony cabins are approximately 194 square feet with balconies around 54 square feet.
Deluxe Balcony Aurea cabins are also approximately 194 square feet with balconies around 54 square feet.
One of Orchestra’s strengths is the number of balcony cabins available.
The Musica Class was built during a period when private balconies had become increasingly important to cruise passengers, so Orchestra offers significantly more balcony inventory than many older cruise ships.
That can be particularly attractive on Mediterranean itineraries.
Sailing into or out of places like Istanbul, Corfu or the Greek Islands can be part of the experience, and having your own balcony makes it much easier to enjoy those views.
As with any MSC ship, check the exact cabin location before booking.
Some balconies have partial views, shadows created by the ship’s structure or different railing designs.
MSC Yacht Club on MSC Orchestra
MSC Yacht Club comes to MSC Orchestra beginning March 13, 2027.
The new complex includes 63 suites divided among four categories:
- MSC Yacht Club Interior Suite
- MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Suite
- MSC Yacht Club Two-Room Grand Suite
- MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite with Whirlpool Bath
The Interior Suite measures approximately 215 square feet and accommodates up to two passengers.
Yacht Club Deluxe Suites range from approximately 258 to 323 square feet with balconies of up to around 65 square feet.
The Two-Room Grand Suite measures approximately 301 square feet with a balcony of around 97 square feet.
Unlike a conventional single-room suite, this category provides a separate bedroom and living room, making it particularly useful for passengers wanting more separation inside the cabin.
At the top is the MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite with Whirlpool Bath.
The Royal Suite measures approximately 506 square feet and includes a massive terrace of around 840 square feet.
The outdoor area includes:

Inside, the suite offers separate bedrooms and living areas, walk-in storage and a larger bathroom arrangement.

Yacht Club on Orchestra is particularly interesting because of the size of the ship.
Passengers receive MSC’s premium ship-within-a-ship experience while sailing on a vessel of roughly 92,000 gross tons instead of one of the line’s largest ships.
For people who enjoy Yacht Club but prefer smaller ships, that could be a very appealing combination.
Dining on MSC Orchestra
MSC Orchestra has a relatively traditional dining setup compared with MSC’s newer vessels.
The core dining options include:

4 Seasons provides another buffet and casual dining area. MSC currently identifies both La Piazzetta and 4 Seasons in the ship’s dining lineup.
The major dining upgrade comes with the refurbishment.
Butcher’s Cut will add MSC’s American-style steakhouse to Orchestra.
The restaurant focuses on premium steaks and traditional steakhouse sides in a more upscale specialty-dining setting.

Passengers researching older versions of Orchestra may also find references to Shanghai Chinese Restaurant.
That venue appears on older Orchestra materials, while MSC’s updated post-refurbishment lineup emphasizes Butcher’s Cut and Kaito instead.
For cruises around the dry-dock period, use the deck plan associated with your specific sailing rather than relying on an older ship guide.
Orchestra will still offer fewer restaurants than MSC World America, Seashore or Seascape.

MSC Orchestra has the lounge-heavy design typical of the Musica Class.
Rather than concentrating nightlife along one indoor promenade, bars and lounges are spread throughout the lower public decks and pool areas.

The Shaker Lounge is another larger entertainment space that can transition from daytime activities into evening music and dancing.
L’Incontro sits near the reception area and works well as a central meeting point.

The overall experience is much more traditional than on newer ships.
Instead of every bar having a major theme or attraction attached to it, Orchestra offers a collection of lounges designed primarily for conversation, drinks, music and dancing.
Entertainment on MSC Orchestra
MSC Orchestra follows a traditional cruise-ship entertainment model.
Covent Garden Theatre is the primary show venue.
Production shows and other large performances are presented here throughout each cruise.
MSC does not maintain one permanent set of shows across every season, so the MSC for Me app and onboard daily program are the best sources for exact entertainment during a specific sailing.
Other activities can include:

MSC specifically lists arts and crafts, dance lessons and sports tournaments among the daytime programming.

MSC Orchestra is not designed around big-ticket attractions.
There are no bumper cars, giant dry slides or huge indoor amusement areas.
Entertainment is much more likely to involve a production show, live band, cocktails, dancing or a visit to the casino.
For passengers who enjoy a more traditional cruise evening, that can be a positive.
Pools, Whirlpools and Outdoor Spaces
MSC Orchestra has two main pool areas:
- Acapulco Pool Area
- Cala Blanca Pool Area
Both are located on Deck 13.
The pool areas include surrounding loungers, whirlpools and nearby outdoor bars.
Unlike MSC Magnifica, Orchestra does not have the same retractable-roof main pool setup.
That is less of an issue on warm-weather Mediterranean cruises but worth considering for passengers comparing the Musica Class ships.

Beginning March 2027, Yacht Club passengers will have an additional private outdoor area with its own whirlpool, loungers, grill and bar.
Family Activities and Kids Spaces
MSC Orchestra has dedicated programming and spaces for children and teenagers.
The facilities are concentrated primarily on the upper decks.
One of the main spaces is the Jungle Adventure playroom.
MSC also provides a separate club for teenagers.

When a trip includes several full days exploring places like Istanbul, Athens, Corfu and Izmir, the ship often serves as a comfortable base rather than the primary attraction.
Families looking for a cruise centered around giant waterslides, ropes courses and amusement-style attractions will find stronger choices elsewhere in the MSC fleet.
MSC Aurea Spa and Gym
MSC Orchestra’s wellness facilities will receive a significant upgrade during the 2027 refurbishment.
MSC says the Aurea Spa will be newly reimagined with a thermal area, whirlpools, treatment options and relaxation spaces.
The fitness center is also being fully refurbished.
The updated MSC Gym powered by Technogym will feature modern cardio and strength equipment along with ocean views.
MSC has not published every detail of the final facility, but it has specifically confirmed the refurbished Technogym fitness center as one of the major components of the project.
Passengers also have outdoor fitness options including the jogging track, basketball court and tennis court.
For guests booking longer European cruises, these improvements should make Orchestra noticeably more competitive with newer ships.
MSC Orchestra Itineraries
MSC Orchestra is primarily a Mediterranean ship.
The itinerary is a major reason to consider Orchestra in the first place.
Rather than operating repetitive Caribbean cruises from a U.S. homeport, Orchestra moves passengers between major European cities, Greek islands and destinations in Turkey.
Eastern Mediterranean Cruises
During late 2026, Orchestra is operating seven-night Eastern Mediterranean cruises.
One typical itinerary includes:
- Istanbul, Turkey
- Corfu, Greece
- Bari, Italy
- Piraeus for Athens, Greece
- Izmir for Ephesus, Turkey
These cruises usually include one or two sea days depending on the departure. MSC also allows embarkation from different ports on some Mediterranean itineraries.
That means two passengers on the same ship may technically be taking the same circular itinerary while one began the cruise in Istanbul and another boarded in Bari.
Always confirm your actual embarkation city when comparing fares.
MSC Orchestra After the 2027 Refurbishment
The first sailing with the new Yacht Club departs March 13, 2027.
MSC Orchestra will sail from Bari, Italy through April 24, 2027 with Eastern Mediterranean itineraries.
Destinations include:
- Bari, Italy
- Izmir, Turkey
- Istanbul, Turkey
- Piraeus for Athens, Greece
- Corfu, Greece

MSC specifically selected the Mediterranean for Orchestra’s first season following the refurbishment.
This itinerary should be a particularly good match for the ship.
Orchestra is large enough to offer a full selection of cruise amenities but small enough that the experience does not overwhelm the destinations.
You can spend most of the day exploring ancient ruins, Greek islands or Istanbul and still return to a ship offering specialty dining, Yacht Club, pools, a casino, theater and multiple lounges.
Final Thoughts on MSC Orchestra
MSC Orchestra is entering an important new stage of her career.
The basic ship dates back to 2007, and you should not expect the scale or attractions of MSC’s newest vessels.
But that is not necessarily a disadvantage.
Orchestra offers a manageable size, traditional cruise layout, two main pools, a theater, casino, numerous lounges, dedicated family spaces and plenty of balcony cabins.
For a port-intensive Mediterranean trip, that can be more than enough.
The 2027 refurbishment addresses some of the biggest areas where an older ship could otherwise fall behind the fleet.
Butcher’s Cut and Kaito substantially improve the specialty-dining lineup.
The redesigned Aurea Spa and upgraded Technogym fitness center modernize the wellness experience.
And MSC Yacht Club changes the premium experience completely.
That may ultimately be Orchestra’s most compelling selling point.
You can book MSC’s premium ship-within-a-ship concept while sailing on a vessel of around 92,000 gross tons rather than one of today’s 200,000-plus-ton mega ships.
That combination will not appeal to everyone.
Families who want the ship itself to be the main attraction should probably look toward MSC World America, MSC Seashore, MSC Seascape or a Meraviglia Class ship.
But travelers who want to explore destinations during the day and return to a comfortable, traditional cruise ship at night may find MSC Orchestra to be an excellent fit.
And beginning March 13, 2027, Orchestra should offer a significantly more modern experience than many older reviews of the ship suggest.
