MSC Musica holds an important place in MSC Cruises history.
When the ship entered service in 2006, it introduced an entirely new generation of MSC cruise ships. Musica would eventually be followed by MSC Orchestra, MSC Poesia and MSC Magnifica, creating the four-ship Musica Class.
Twenty years later, MSC Musica is about to receive one of the biggest updates of her career.
A major refurbishment scheduled for late 2026 will add a 63-suite MSC Yacht Club, Butcher’s Cut steakhouse, an enhanced Kaito Sushi Bar, a completely redesigned MSC Aurea Spa and an upgraded MSC Gym powered by Technogym.
The new spaces are scheduled to debut beginning November 16, 2026, when MSC Musica starts her South America season.
That creates an interesting combination.
Musica remains considerably smaller and more traditional than MSC’s newest ships, but passengers will soon have access to several amenities normally associated with much larger vessels.
For cruisers who prefer a manageable mid-sized ship, destination-focused itineraries and a more traditional cruise experience, MSC Musica may become one of the more interesting ships in the fleet.

MSC Musica was delivered in June 2006 and became the first ship in what would eventually become the four-ship Musica Class.
The ship was christened in Venice on June 29, 2006, with Sophia Loren serving as godmother.
Older sources may show different passenger and cabin counts for MSC Musica. That is largely because MSC is changing the ship’s configuration during the 2026 refurbishment.
For current planning, MSC’s updated winter 2026 specifications are the most useful numbers.
What Makes MSC Musica Different?
MSC Musica is the original ship of the Musica Class.
That means passengers familiar with MSC Orchestra, MSC Poesia or MSC Magnifica will recognize many elements of the basic layout.
The ship does not have an indoor promenade like the Meraviglia Class, waterfront design like the Seaside Class, or the large neighborhood concept found on MSC World America.
Instead, Musica follows a traditional cruise ship layout.
Dining rooms, bars, lounges, the casino and theater occupy the lower public decks. Cabins dominate the middle decks, while pools, the buffet, spa, fitness facilities, children’s areas and outdoor recreation are located higher on the ship.
The result is a ship that should be relatively easy to learn.
MSC Musica also has a noticeably more traditional atmosphere than MSC’s newest ships.
One of the ship’s signature features is the central foyer, which features a three-level waterfall and a transparent piano suspended above an illuminated pool.
But the biggest story surrounding MSC Musica in 2026 is the refurbishment.
Starting November 16, Musica becomes the third Musica Class ship to receive MSC Yacht Club following MSC Magnifica and MSC Poesia.
That addition substantially changes what the ship can offer.
Passengers will be able to combine MSC’s premium ship-within-a-ship experience with a vessel that is less than half the size of MSC’s largest ships.
MSC Musica’s 2026 Refurbishment
Anyone researching MSC Musica needs to pay attention to the date of their cruise.
Sailings through November 15, 2026 use the older ship configuration.
Beginning November 16, 2026, passengers should find a substantially updated version of MSC Musica.
The major additions include:

The refurbishment brings Musica much closer to the upgraded experience being rolled out across the entire Musica Class.
This distinction is especially important when looking at older reviews, YouTube tours or deck plans.
A review from 2024 or early 2026 can still be useful for understanding the general layout and atmosphere of MSC Musica, but some dining, spa, fitness and upper-deck areas will be different after November 2026.
MSC Musica Layout
MSC Musica has 16 numbered decks, with the main passenger areas beginning on Deck 5.
The basic arrangement is relatively straightforward.
Decks 5 through 7 contain most of the major indoor public spaces.
These include the main dining rooms, reception, bars, lounges, shops, Sanremo Casino and Teatro La Scala.
Decks 8 through 12 are primarily dedicated to cabins.
The upper decks contain the majority of the daytime activity areas.
Deck 13 includes the main pool deck, buffet areas and wellness facilities.
Deck 14 includes family facilities, youth spaces and additional outdoor activities.
Decks 15 and 16 contain additional accommodations, sun decks and sports areas.
After the November 2026 refurbishment, MSC Yacht Club spaces will also occupy portions of the upper decks.
It is a much simpler layout than MSC’s newest ships.
You are not dealing with multiple entertainment districts or trying to remember which end of a 1,000-foot-long promenade contains a particular restaurant.
For passengers who prefer an easier-to-navigate cruise ship, that can be a real advantage.
Cabins on MSC Musica
MSC Musica offers a traditional selection of interior, ocean-view, balcony and suite accommodations.
Following the refurbishment, passengers will also be able to choose from four MSC Yacht Club categories.
Standard accommodations include:

- Deluxe Ocean View
- Deluxe Ocean View with Obstructed View
- Deluxe Balcony
- Deluxe Balcony with Partial View
- Premium Balcony with Ocean View

Interior cabins are approximately 151 square feet.
Ocean-view cabins are generally around 183 square feet, with some obstructed-view cabins around 194 square feet.
Balcony cabins range from approximately 161 to 194 square feet, with balconies generally around 43 to 54 square feet.
One thing MSC Musica does particularly well for a ship of this age is balcony availability.
The Musica Class was designed at a time when private balconies were becoming much more important to cruise passengers. That gives Musica a considerably larger percentage of balcony cabins than many older ships.
This can make a balcony particularly attractive on Mediterranean itineraries where scenic arrivals and departures are part of the experience.
Passengers should still check the deck plan carefully before selecting a cabin.
MSC identifies several balcony and ocean-view categories with partial or obstructed views. Balcony design and railing style can also vary depending on location.
MSC Yacht Club on MSC Musica
MSC Yacht Club is the biggest addition coming to MSC Musica.
The new Yacht Club opens November 16, 2026 and will include 63 suites.
Passengers can choose from four categories:
- MSC Yacht Club Interior Suite
- MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Suite
- MSC Yacht Club Two-Room Grand Suite
- MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite with Whirlpool Bath
The Yacht Club Interior Suite measures approximately 215 square feet and accommodates up to two guests.
Deluxe Suites range from approximately 258 to 323 square feet with balconies of around 65 square feet.
The new Two-Room Grand Suite is particularly interesting.
MSC specifically designed this category for the refurbished Musica Class ships. The suite measures approximately 301 square feet with a balcony around 97 square feet and provides additional separation between living and sleeping areas.
At the top of the lineup is the MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite with Whirlpool Bath.
It measures approximately 506 square feet and includes a massive private terrace of approximately 840 square feet.
The terrace includes:
- Private whirlpool
- Outdoor shower
- Dining table
- Sun loungers
Inside, the Royal Suite includes separate sleeping and living spaces along with a larger bathroom and walk-in wardrobe.
Yacht Club guests also receive access to private areas elsewhere on the ship.

- Private sundeck
- Two whirlpools
- Grill

- Dedicated concierge
Standard Yacht Club benefits include services such as:
- 24-hour butler service

Benefits can change, so passengers should verify the exact inclusions associated with their booking.
The most compelling part of Yacht Club on MSC Musica may be the ship itself.
You get the private Yacht Club environment but can step outside it onto a ship carrying roughly 3,200 passengers at maximum occupancy rather than one designed for 5,000 or 6,000 guests.
For cruisers who love Yacht Club but prefer smaller ships, that could be an excellent combination.
Dining on MSC Musica
MSC Musica has a much smaller dining lineup than MSC’s newest ships.
That is not necessarily a negative, but passengers should understand the difference.
MSC’s updated dining lineup includes:
- Oleandro Restaurant
- Belle Epoque
- Gli Archi Buffet Restaurant
- Il Giardino Buffet Restaurant
- Butcher’s Cut
- Kaito Sushi Bar
- MSC Yacht Club Restaurant for Yacht Club guests
Oleandro and Belle Epoque provide the traditional main dining experience.
Passengers assigned traditional dining will generally eat dinner in their designated main dining room, while other meals may also be available depending on the daily schedule.
Gli Archi and Il Giardino make up the primary casual buffet areas.
These are where passengers will find much of the ship’s casual breakfast and lunch service along with pizza, snacks and other options throughout the day.
The specialty-dining lineup becomes considerably more interesting following the refurbishment.
Butcher’s Cut is being added in November 2026.
MSC’s American-style steakhouse has become one of the most consistent specialty restaurants across the fleet. The menu typically revolves around premium steaks, appetizers, classic steakhouse sides, seafood and desserts.
Kaito Sushi Bar is already a familiar Musica venue, but MSC is refreshing the restaurant as part of the refurbishment.
The updated Kaito focuses on freshly prepared sushi and Asian dishes.
Yacht Club passengers will also receive their own dedicated restaurant.
Overall, Musica still will not offer anywhere near the number of restaurants found on MSC World America, MSC Seashore or MSC Seascape.
But Butcher’s Cut and the refreshed Kaito give passengers two legitimate specialty-dining alternatives to the main dining rooms and buffet.
Bars and Lounges on MSC Musica
MSC Musica follows the lounge-heavy design that characterized MSC ships before indoor promenades became a major part of the fleet.
Instead of concentrating everything along one central corridor, bars and lounges are spread across the ship.

The overall experience is different from the bar scene on newer MSC ships.
There are fewer heavily themed venues, but more traditional lounges where the atmosphere changes throughout the day.
A lounge might be quiet in the afternoon, host live music before dinner and become a more active entertainment venue later in the evening.
Crystal Lounge is one of the ship’s larger entertainment spaces and is a frequent location for live music and dancing.
Enoteca Wine Bar provides a quieter setting centered around wine.
The Golden Bar, Diamond Bar and Blue Velvet provide additional indoor cocktail options around the lower public decks.
Blue Marlin and Laguna serve the pool deck.
Il Tucano Lounge is another larger venue that can host music, dancing and organized activities.
The addition of MSC Yacht Club also brings private bar service to the Top Sail Lounge and Yacht Club sundeck for guests staying in that section of the ship.
Entertainment on MSC Musica
MSC Musica offers a traditional cruise entertainment lineup rather than an attraction-driven one.
Teatro La Scala is the ship’s primary theater.
The venue hosts the larger production shows and performances offered during each cruise.
Exact productions can change by season, so passengers should check the MSC for Me app or daily program once onboard.
Other entertainment around MSC Musica can include:
- Live music
- Dancing
- Trivia
- Karaoke
- Game shows
- Theme parties
- Dance classes
- Organized competitions
- Pool-deck activities
- Casino gaming
- Video games
Sanremo Casino is one of the primary nighttime venues and includes slot machines and traditional table games.
Crystal Lounge and Il Tucano Lounge provide additional entertainment after dinner.
MSC Musica also has Q32 Disco in the pre-refurbishment configuration, although passengers sailing after the major November 2026 update should rely on the latest deck plan because several upper-deck spaces are being changed as part of the project.
This is not a ship built around thrill attractions.
There are no giant dry slides, bumper cars or multi-level waterparks.
Evenings are more likely to revolve around dinner, drinks, live music, theater shows, dancing or the casino.
That will appeal to some passengers more than others.
Pools, Whirlpools and Outdoor Spaces
MSC Musica has two primary pool areas on Deck 13:
- Copacabana Pool Area
- La Spiaggia Pool Area
The main pool deck also includes whirlpools and plenty of surrounding deck space for loungers.
Blue Marlin Bar serves one portion of the pool deck, while Laguna Bar serves the other.
The Copacabana area also serves as an important location for outdoor entertainment and organized activities.
Children have a separate outdoor pool and games area higher on the ship.
MSC Musica also offers outdoor sports and deck activities.
Depending on the final post-refurbishment configuration, these can include:

- Power walking area
- Shuffleboard
- Sun decks
- Outdoor games
Aurea passengers have access to an exclusive solarium area.
Beginning in November 2026, MSC Yacht Club guests will receive another completely private outdoor option.
The Yacht Club sundeck will include:

That gives premium passengers an outdoor escape from the busier main pool deck.
Family Activities and Kids Spaces
MSC Musica offers dedicated children’s and teen facilities, although families should set expectations appropriately.
This is not one of MSC’s newest family-focused mega ships.
There is no Harbour-style family district, giant aquapark or Sportplex.
Instead, families have access to traditional cruise ship youth facilities.
These include:
- Indoor children’s play areas
- Outdoor children’s pool
- Kids clubs
- Junior Club
- Teen Club
- Video and arcade games
- Sports activities
- Organized family programming
MSC divides its youth programming into age groups so children and teenagers can participate in activities with other passengers around the same age.
The ship can work particularly well for families taking destination-heavy cruises.
On a seven-night Mediterranean itinerary with frequent port stops, many families spend much of their day exploring ashore and use the ship for dinner, pools and evening entertainment.
For that type of trip, Musica has plenty to offer.
Families who want the cruise ship itself to be the primary attraction will probably be happier on MSC World America, MSC Seashore, MSC Seascape or one of the Meraviglia Class ships.
MSC Aurea Spa and Gym
Both the spa and fitness center are receiving major attention during MSC Musica’s 2026 refurbishment.
The redesigned MSC Aurea Spa will include an upgraded thermal experience with features including:
- Sauna with panoramic sea views
- Steam rooms
- Salt room
- Kneipp path
- Relaxation area
- Fresh tea area
- Treatment rooms
Massages, beauty services and other spa treatments will also continue to be available.
The MSC Gym powered by Technogym is also being upgraded.
MSC says the new fitness area will feature panoramic aft-facing ocean views.
The facility will include:
- Technogym cardio equipment
- Strength equipment
- Indoor workout areas
- Dedicated yoga studio
- Spinning studio
These upgrades are particularly meaningful on a ship like Musica.
The ship regularly operates longer repositioning voyages along with seven-night cruises, and South America sailings can include multiple sea days.
A better gym and spa become considerably more useful when passengers are spending more time aboard the ship.
MSC Musica Itineraries
MSC Musica divides its time primarily between the Mediterranean and South America.
That makes the ship considerably more destination-focused than MSC vessels permanently based in Florida or other year-round homeports.
Mediterranean Cruises
During summer 2026, MSC Musica is sailing Western Mediterranean itineraries.
Typical destinations include:
- Genoa, Italy
- Civitavecchia for Rome, Italy
- Cagliari, Sardinia
- Marseille, France
- Valencia, Spain
- Ibiza, Spain
Many of these itineraries allow passengers to embark at multiple ports rather than operating exclusively from one traditional homeport.
That is common on MSC’s European cruises.
For example, passengers on the same sailing may begin their vacation in Genoa while others embark in Marseille, Valencia or Civitavecchia.
This makes it particularly important to pay attention to the actual embarkation city when comparing cruise prices.
MSC Musica is scheduled to return to the Mediterranean in summer 2027 following her South America season.
The 2027 schedule includes seven-night Western Mediterranean cruises visiting ports such as Genoa, Civitavecchia, Palermo, Ibiza, Valencia and Marseille.
South America Cruises
MSC Musica heads to South America following her 2026 refurbishment.
The season runs from November 2026 through April 2027.
This is also when the new MSC Yacht Club officially becomes available.
MSC has scheduled a mixture of shorter and longer voyages.
Three- and four-night cruises focus heavily on Brazilian destinations such as:
- Santos
- Buzios
- Ilha Grande
- Ilhabela
Longer holiday cruises expand into Argentina and Uruguay with ports that can include:
- Buenos Aires
- Montevideo
- Punta del Este
These eight- and nine-night sailings are particularly important around Christmas and New Year.
South America has long been an important market for MSC Cruises, and Musica has extensive history sailing in the region.
The refurbishment should make the ship considerably more competitive for the 2026-2027 season.
MSC Musica Transatlantic Cruises
At the end of the South America season, MSC Musica is scheduled to operate a 16-night transatlantic crossing.
The cruise departs Santos on April 1, 2027 and finishes in Genoa.
Grand Voyages like this can be particularly appealing to passengers interested in longer cruises at relatively low per-night prices.
They also include substantially more sea days than a typical Mediterranean itinerary.
That makes the ship’s upgraded spa, gym, specialty restaurants and Yacht Club especially useful.
Final Thoughts on MSC Musica
MSC Musica is entering a particularly interesting phase of her career.
At 20 years old, she is clearly part of an older generation of MSC ships.
There is no disguising that.
The ship is much smaller than MSC World America, MSC Euribia, MSC Seashore or MSC Seascape. It lacks many of the attractions and entertainment concepts found on the newest vessels.
But being older and smaller does not automatically make Musica less appealing.
For the right passenger, those characteristics may actually be advantages.
The ship has a straightforward layout, traditional lounges, two main pool areas, a full theater, casino, dedicated kids facilities and a strong selection of balconies.
More importantly, the November 2026 refurbishment addresses several of the areas where an older ship could otherwise feel dated.
The completely redesigned spa and upgraded gym modernize the wellness experience.
Butcher’s Cut and the refreshed Kaito improve specialty dining.
And MSC Yacht Club fundamentally changes the premium experience available aboard the ship.
That final addition may be the most interesting.
Yacht Club guests will receive many of MSC’s best premium benefits while sailing on a ship of roughly 92,000 gross tons.
For someone who enjoys Yacht Club but does not necessarily want to spend a week aboard a 200,000-plus-ton mega ship, MSC Musica could become a very compelling alternative.
The ship still will not be for everyone.
Families seeking waterparks and thrill attractions have better options elsewhere in the MSC fleet.
But travelers who prioritize destinations, traditional cruising and a more manageable ship should give MSC Musica a serious look.
And after November 16, 2026, the ship passengers step aboard will be considerably different from the MSC Musica shown in many older reviews.
