MSC Cruises Says No Summer Fuel Surcharge as Part of “Best Holiday Ever” Push

MSC Cruises is making a pretty cruiser-friendly promise for summer 2026: no added fuel surcharge.

As part of its new “Best Holiday Ever” summer campaign, MSC Cruises says guests can book with more confidence knowing the price they see at the time of booking is the price they will pay. That may sound like standard marketing language, but there is one detail that stands out – MSC specifically says it will not introduce a fuel surcharge this summer, even with recent increases in global fuel prices.

For anyone pricing out a cruise vacation, that is worth paying attention to.

    What’s Changing?

Technically, nothing is changing for guests in the form of an added fee – and that is the point.

Cruise lines have long had the ability to add fuel surcharges under certain conditions, even if they do not use them often. When fuel prices rise, travelers sometimes wonder if their vacation cost could suddenly creep up after booking. MSC is trying to get ahead of that concern by saying guests will not see an added fuel surcharge this summer.

In plain English: if you book an MSC cruise for this summer, MSC says there will not be a surprise fuel surcharge added on top of your fare.

That is a nice bit of reassurance at a time when travel costs in general still feel like they have been personally training for the Olympics.

What Else Is Included in MSC’s Summer Push?

The no-fuel-surcharge message is part of a broader campaign focused on making summer travel feel easier and more predictable.

MSC is highlighting several parts of the cruise experience, including:

      • Full-board dining in main restaurants and buffets
      • Evening shows and live entertainment
      • Pools, aquaparks, fitness facilities, and family programming
      • Fly & Cruise packages that bundle flights, transfers, and the cruise
      • Shore excursions booked through MSC
      • Travel insurance options
      • Flexible cruise changes for guests booked in Fantastica, Aurea, and MSC Yacht Club experiences

MSC is also emphasizing the convenience of local embarkation ports for guests who prefer not to fly. That is especially relevant for European travelers, but the broader point applies across MSC’s network: the cruise line wants to position summer cruising as a simpler vacation option in a year when people are still watching costs closely.

      Why This Matters for Cruisers

For travelers, the most important takeaway is price confidence.

Cruise fares already come with plenty of line items to think about: taxes and fees, gratuities, drink packages, Wi-Fi, specialty dining, excursions, parking, flights, hotels, and that one “quick” pre-cruise Target run that somehow becomes $187.

A fuel surcharge would be one more cost layered on top. By saying it will not add one this summer, MSC is giving guests one less thing to worry about when budgeting.

That does not mean every MSC cruise will be cheap. It also does not mean prices cannot vary by ship, sailing date, itinerary, or cabin type. But it does mean MSC is publicly leaning into price transparency for summer 2026.

      Looking Ahead

This is a smart move by MSC, especially as the cruise line continues trying to grow its appeal with both first-time cruisers and experienced travelers comparing vacation value.

MSC has often positioned itself as a strong value option, particularly for families and travelers who want a big-ship cruise experience without always paying the highest prices in the market. Making a no-fuel-surcharge promise fits neatly into that message.

For guests already booked, this should be welcome news. For those still shopping summer cruises, it is another factor to consider when comparing total vacation cost.

As always, cruisers should still read the full terms of their booking, compare what is included, and budget for extras. But at least for this summer, MSC is making one thing clear: fuel surcharges are not part of the plan.
