MSC Grandiosa Cabin Guide: Types, Sizes and the Best Rooms to Book

MSC Grandiosa has more than 2,400 cabins and suites, ranging from compact rooms designed for solo travelers to two-level Yacht Club suites with private whirlpools. Most guests will choose among an interior, ocean-view or balcony cabin, but even those categories contain some meaningful differences.

The most important thing to understand is that MSC’s cabin category codes frequently describe location rather than a completely different room. A BR3 Deluxe Balcony, for example, is not necessarily larger than a BR1 Deluxe Balcony. It is generally located on a higher deck.

Other differences are more substantial. Grandiosa has solo cabins, unusually large ocean-view rooms that can accommodate families, balconies with partial views, Aurea suites with enormous terraces and Yacht Club suites both inside and outside the main Yacht Club complex.

This guide explains the major MSC Grandiosa cabin types, which rooms work best for different travelers and what to examine before selecting a cabin number.

MSC Grandiosa cabin types at a glance

These occupancy limits follow MSC’s detailed technical guide. MSC’s general cabin pages sometimes use broader descriptions that do not match the category-by-category capacity chart. Your selected sailing and the current reservation system ultimately determine whether a particular cabin can accommodate your party.

What is included in an MSC Grandiosa cabin?

Most MSC Grandiosa cabins include:

• A double bed that can convert into two single beds
• A bathroom with a shower or bathtub, depending on the room
• Interactive television
• Telephone
• Safe
• Minibar
• Hairdryer
• Individually controlled air conditioning
• Closet and storage space
• 120V and 230V electrical outlets
• Wi-Fi connectivity when an internet package is purchased or included

The Studio Interior is an exception to the normal bed configuration because it has a single bed designed for one guest.

Having a minibar in the room does not mean its contents are automatically included. Minibar coverage depends on the experience, package and promotional offer attached to the reservation.

Electrical outlets can still be limited once phones, watches, tablets and other devices are connected. A cruise-safe USB charging hub can be useful, but do not bring a surge-protected power strip.

Interior cabins

Interior cabins are Grandiosa’s most affordable accommodations. They lack natural light, but they provide the same essential sleeping, bathroom and storage areas found in many of the ship’s ocean-view and balcony rooms.

For travelers who spend most of the day exploring the ship or ports, an interior cabin can offer excellent value.

Deluxe Interior IR1 and IR2

Deluxe Interior cabins measure approximately 183 square feet and can accommodate up to four guests.

The main difference between the two categories is location:

• IR1 cabins are on decks 5 through 10
• IR2 cabins are on decks 11 through 14

An IR2 is not automatically larger or more luxurious than an IR1. You are generally paying for a higher deck and potentially more convenient access to the buffet, pools and upper-deck activities.

A lower IR1 cabin may be better for someone prone to motion sickness. It can also provide good value if the higher category carries a meaningful price premium.

Studio Interior IS

The Studio Interior is approximately 129 square feet and designed for one person. Instead of the standard convertible double bed, it has a fixed single bed measuring approximately 55 by 79 inches.

This is a useful option for solo travelers because it may avoid the full single supplement charged when one person occupies a cabin intended for two.

However, the Studio Interior is not automatically the least expensive solo option. MSC promotions can occasionally make a larger Deluxe Interior competitive in total price. Solo travelers should compare the complete fare rather than assuming the dedicated studio will always be the better deal.

Ocean-view cabins

Grandiosa’s ocean-view rooms vary considerably in size and capacity. The category includes compact cabins for two, conventional rooms that sleep four and oversized family accommodations that can sleep as many as six.

That makes the category code especially important.

Junior Ocean View OM2

The Junior Ocean View measures approximately 129 square feet and accommodates two guests. It is noticeably smaller than the Deluxe Ocean View and uses a narrower bed.

These rooms are on deck 8. They can work well for two people who want natural light without paying for a balcony, but the smaller floor plan makes them less appealing when the price is close to a larger ocean-view room.

Junior Ocean View with Obstructed View OO

This category has approximately the same 129-square-foot interior as the standard Junior Ocean View, but the window’s view is obstructed by lifeboats or other ship equipment.

An obstructed ocean-view room can be a good compromise when it is priced only slightly above an interior cabin. You still receive natural light and some indication of the weather outside, even if the actual view is limited.

If the price is close to an unobstructed ocean-view cabin, the upgrade will usually be worthwhile.

Deluxe Ocean View OR1

The Deluxe Ocean View measures approximately 172 square feet and is located on deck 5. MSC’s technical guide indicates that this category can accommodate up to four people.

Its lower position can be helpful for guests concerned about motion. Deck 5 is also convenient for getting on and off the ship in many ports, although reaching the pools and buffet requires a longer elevator ride.

Premium Ocean View OL2

The Premium Ocean View is one of Grandiosa’s most interesting family options. These cabins measure approximately 269 square feet and can accommodate up to six guests.

That makes them substantially larger than the ship’s other ocean-view rooms and even larger than many balcony cabins.

Families should compare a Premium Ocean View with both a balcony cabin and two connecting cabins. Giving up the balcony may result in considerably more interior room, but two connecting cabins provide two bathrooms and better separation between adults and children.

Balcony cabins

A Deluxe Balcony is likely to be the best overall choice for many couples and small families. The standard balcony cabin measures approximately 183 square feet, plus its private outdoor space.

The major balcony categories are BR1, BR2 and BR3:

• BR1 cabins are generally on decks 8 through 10
• BR2 cabins are generally on decks 11 and 12
• BR3 cabins are generally on decks 13 and 14

The cabin interiors are broadly similar. The category progression primarily reflects location rather than increasing room size.

A BR1 or BR2 can therefore be a better value than a BR3 if you do not care about being close to the pool deck. Mid-level cabins may also have more passenger cabins above and below them, reducing the chance of noise from public areas.

Balcony layout and bed placement

Bed and sofa placement can alternate among Grandiosa balcony cabins. In some rooms, the bed is closer to the bathroom, while in others it is closer to the balcony.

Neither arrangement is universally better.

A bed near the bathroom creates a more open sitting area beside the balcony. A bed near the balcony can create more room around the entrance and closet. The difference is largely personal preference unless someone in the cabin has specific mobility needs.

In our experience with comparable rooms on a sister ship, neither arrangement stood out as significantly better.

Balcony size and railing differences

Not every balcony within the same category is identical. Depending on the location, a cabin may have:

• A deeper or wider balcony
• An angled balcony
• A glass railing
• A solid or partially solid railing
• A partial or lateral obstruction

A solid balcony front can limit the ocean view while sitting down. If the view is particularly important, inspect the exact cabin on the deck plan and look for photos or videos of that cabin or nearby rooms.

Deluxe Balcony with Partial View BP

Partial-view balcony cabins have an interior measuring approximately 183 square feet and a balcony of around 43 square feet.

The obstruction may affect only part of the view rather than completely blocking it. The value depends on the exact cabin and the price difference from a regular balcony.

This category can be a smart purchase when the discount is substantial. If the savings are small, a standard BR1 or BR2 will usually be the safer choice.

Deluxe Balcony Aurea BA

The Deluxe Balcony Aurea measures approximately 183 square feet, with balconies generally ranging from approximately 65 to 86 square feet.

The cabin itself is not necessarily larger than a regular Deluxe Balcony. The higher price primarily reflects its preferred location and the benefits that come with the Aurea Experience.

Do not upgrade to an Aurea balcony solely because you expect a dramatically larger room. Compare the complete benefits and fare before deciding whether the experience is worth the additional cost.

Storage in Grandiosa cabins

Storage in the standard cabins should be adequate for most couples, but it is not overly abundant.

In our experience, two people could unpack without struggling, although there was not a great deal of unused closet or drawer space. Four people sharing the same room will need to be more organized.

Suitcases fit under the bed. Magnetic hooks and small organizers can help keep hats, lanyards, lightweight clothing and toiletries off the limited counters.

Aurea suites

Grandiosa’s Aurea suite categories offer more interior space, larger balconies or terraces and the additional benefits of the Aurea Experience.

The specific suite number matters because outdoor space can vary considerably within a category.

Premium Suite Aurea SL1

The Premium Suite Aurea measures approximately 269 square feet and can accommodate up to six people. Balcony sizes range from approximately 32 to 151 square feet.

That is an unusually wide range, so travelers should examine the exact suite before booking.

These suites include a sitting area, additional sleeping accommodations and a bathroom with a bathtub. They are among the most practical choices for larger families who want more space without moving into Yacht Club.

Premium Suite Aurea with Terrace and Whirlpool SLJ

This suite measures approximately 291 square feet, with a terrace of approximately 280 to 323 square feet.

The outdoor area is nearly as large as the cabin itself and includes a private whirlpool. Inside, the suite has a double sofa bed and can accommodate up to four guests.

This category is a strong choice for travelers who expect to spend substantial time in their cabin and want private outdoor space rather than simply a larger interior.

Grand Suite Aurea with Terrace and Whirlpool SXJ

The Grand Suite Aurea measures approximately 420 square feet and has a terrace of approximately 388 square feet.

It includes:

• A private whirlpool
• A separate sitting area
• A double sofa bed
• A walk-in closet
• Accommodations for up to four people

It is one of the best non-Yacht Club options on Grandiosa and works particularly well for guests who prioritize a large private terrace.

MSC Yacht Club cabins

MSC Yacht Club combines upgraded accommodations with access to a private lounge, restaurant, sundeck, pool and dedicated service.

Grandiosa offers four main Yacht Club cabin types.

Yacht Club Interior Suite YIN

The Yacht Club Interior Suite measures approximately 183 square feet and accommodates two guests.

It does not have a window or balcony, but it includes the broader Yacht Club experience. This is often the most affordable way for two people to access Yacht Club’s private spaces and services.

Because the suite only sleeps two, families will need to consider another Yacht Club category or multiple cabins.

Yacht Club Deluxe Suite YC1

The Yacht Club Deluxe Suite measures approximately 312 square feet, plus a balcony of around 54 square feet. It can accommodate up to four people.

These suites provide a conventional Yacht Club layout with a sitting area, more closet space and a location within the primary Yacht Club complex. Bathroom configurations can vary, with a shower or bathtub depending on the room.

For most travelers who want a balcony and the complete Yacht Club experience, the Deluxe Suite offers the best balance.

Yacht Club Duplex Suite with Whirlpool YJD

The Yacht Club Duplex Suite provides approximately 635 square feet across two levels, plus a balcony with a private whirlpool.

The lower level includes a living room, double sofa bed and bathroom with a shower. Upstairs are the main bedroom, two walk-in closets and another bathroom with a bathtub.

The two-level design creates better separation between the sleeping and living areas, but there are two important considerations:

• The internal staircase may not work well for guests with limited mobility
• These suites are outside the central Yacht Club enclave

Guests still receive Yacht Club access and benefits, but they must walk or take an elevator to reach most of the private Yacht Club facilities.

MSC’s general cabin page has listed a much smaller balcony measurement for this suite, but that figure appears to be an error. The detailed technical guide indicates a balcony of approximately 248 square feet.

Yacht Club Royal Suite YC3

The Yacht Club Royal Suite is Grandiosa’s largest and most exclusive accommodation.

It measures approximately 624 square feet and has an enormous balcony of approximately 753 square feet. The suite includes:

• Separate living and dining spaces
• Walk-in closet
• Private whirlpool
• Accommodations for up to four guests

For travelers who want the ship’s largest private outdoor area and maximum separation between living and sleeping spaces, the Royal Suite is the top option.

MSC Grandiosa Solo cabins

Grandiosa is more accommodating to solo travelers than many cruise ships because it offers both an interior studio and a balcony studio.

The Studio Interior is the value-oriented choice, while the Studio Balcony adds private outdoor space. Both have approximately 129 square feet of interior space and are designed for one guest.

Before booking, compare:

• The complete solo fare
• Cabin size
• Bed size
• Location
• Balcony value
• Current promotions
• Voyagers Club points and booking conditions

A regular interior or balcony cabin may occasionally cost about the same during a promotion, giving a solo traveler considerably more space.

Family and connecting cabins

Grandiosa has several viable options for larger families:

• Premium Ocean View OL2 for up to six
• Premium Suite Aurea SL1 for up to six
• Standard cabins that accommodate three or four
• Two or three connecting cabins

Connecting cabins share an internal door. Adjoining cabins are simply located beside or near one another and may not have a connecting door.

Two connecting cabins can be more practical than placing four people in one balcony room. They provide two bathrooms, additional storage and more privacy. The tradeoff is that the combined price may be higher than one larger family cabin.

Some Grandiosa accommodations use sofa beds, Pullman beds or bunk-style sleeping arrangements. For example, MSC specifically identifies cabins 13265, 13376, 14235 and 14278 as having bunk beds for the additional occupants.

Upper bunks are not recommended for children under six. Families should confirm the exact sleeping arrangement rather than relying only on the cabin’s published occupancy.

Accessible cabins

MSC lists 60 accessible cabins for guests with disabilities or reduced mobility.

Accessible accommodations are available in several categories, including:

• Deluxe Interior
• Deluxe Balcony
• Partial-view Balcony
• Yacht Club Deluxe Suite

Depending on the category, these cabins measure approximately 237 to 301 square feet and include larger bathrooms.

Accessible features may include:

• Wider cabin and bathroom doors
• Grab rails
• Fold-down shower seat
• Additional maneuvering space
• Visual, audio and Braille indicators around the ship

Guests who need an accessible cabin should reserve it directly through MSC or a travel agent familiar with accessibility requirements. Someone who regularly uses a wheelchair should also plan to bring or rent one because the ship’s wheelchairs are generally reserved for embarkation, disembarkation and emergencies.

Bella, Fantastica, Aurea and Yacht Club

A cabin category and an MSC Experience are related, but they are not the same thing.

Bella typically provides the lowest price but may offer less control over cabin selection. Fantastica generally provides more flexibility and a wider choice of locations. Aurea combines selected cabins and suites with additional experience-level benefits. Yacht Club includes both upgraded accommodations and access to private areas and services.

Compare the total fare and included benefits rather than assuming the more expensive experience automatically provides a larger cabin.

A Deluxe Balcony Aurea, for example, may be approximately the same interior size as a regular Deluxe Balcony.

Grandiosa cabins and locations to examine carefully

These are not automatically bad cabins, but they deserve additional research before booking:

• Deck 8 cabins above public areas on deck 7
• Deck 14 cabins beneath the buffet or active outdoor spaces
• Partial-view balcony cabins
• Obstructed-view Junior Ocean View cabins
• Balconies with solid or partially solid railings
• Connecting cabins when you do not need the connecting door
• Cabins with Pullman beds or bunks when traveling with young children
• Guarantee cabins where MSC selects the location
• Yacht Club Duplex Suites for guests who may struggle with stairs
• Cabins near crew service areas or other sources of regular activity

We did not notice any significant cabin soundproofing problems during our sister-ship experience. Normal hallway activity was possible, but noise did not stand out as a weakness of the cabin design.

Location still matters. Even a well-insulated cabin can be affected by chairs moving on the deck above, late-night entertainment beneath it or passengers gathering in a busy hallway.

Tips for choosing your MSC Grandiosa cabin

• Look at the exact cabin on the deck plan before booking.
• Check what is located directly above and below the room.
• Confirm the sleeping arrangement if more than two people will occupy the cabin.
• Ask whether the bathroom has a shower or bathtub if that matters to you.
• Check whether the balcony has a glass, metal or partially metal railing.
• Do not assume every cabin in the same category has the same balcony.
• Compare partial-view and regular balcony prices.
• Compare a Premium Ocean View with a balcony when traveling with children.
• Consider two connecting cabins when privacy and bathroom space matter.
• Compare the entire Aurea package rather than paying more solely for the cabin label.
• Pack a cruise-safe USB hub instead of a surge-protected power strip.
• Use the space beneath the bed for luggage.
• Bring magnetic hooks or small organizers if more than two people will share the room.

Frequently asked questions about MSC Grandiosa cabins

Final thoughts

MSC Grandiosa has cabin choices for almost every budget, but the category names do not always reveal the most important differences.

For most couples, a BR1 or BR2 Deluxe Balcony will be the sweet spot. Families should pay particular attention to the oversized Premium Ocean View, six-person Premium Suite Aurea and connecting-cabin options. Solo travelers have the unusual choice of both interior and balcony studios, while Yacht Club guests can select anything from an interior suite to a two-level duplex or enormous Royal Suite.

Whatever category you choose, review the specific cabin number before booking. Location, balcony design, occupancy and sleeping configuration can matter more than the difference between two similar category codes.
