MSC Poesia offers a cabin lineup that is a little easier to understand than what you will find on MSC’s newest mega-ships, but there are still some important differences hidden behind names like Deluxe Balcony, Premium Balcony and Deluxe Balcony Aurea.
For the current MSC Poesia configuration, guests can choose from interior, ocean view and balcony cabins, along with a significantly more upscale collection of MSC Yacht Club suites. Standard cabins are generally compact by modern cruise ship standards, while some of the Yacht Club accommodations are dramatically larger.
The key when booking MSC Poesia is not simply deciding whether you want an interior, ocean view or balcony. Within the balcony categories especially, paying attention to cabin size, capacity and deck location can make a real difference.
MSC notes that cabin sizes, layouts and furniture can vary within the same category, so all measurements should be considered approximate.
MSC Poesia Cabin Types at a Glance
MSC Poesia has 1,223 cabins and can accommodate up to 3,223 passengers. The ship’s accommodations range from approximately 151-square-foot interior cabins to an MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite measuring more than 500 square feet, before you even count its massive terrace.

One of the most important things to notice is the difference between Deluxe and Premium Balcony cabins. Premium Balconies are not simply the same room in a different location. They are approximately 33 square feet larger inside, which is enough to be noticeable.
Interior Cabins on MSC Poesia
MSC Poesia has two main standard interior categories, Deluxe Interior IR1 and Deluxe Interior IR2.
Both are approximately 151 square feet and can accommodate up to four guests. The major difference is location. IR1 cabins are found on Decks 5 through 11, while IR2 cabins are on Decks 12 through 14.
Inside, you can expect a double bed that can normally be converted into two single beds, a bathroom with shower, vanity area, hairdryer, TV, telephone, safe, minibar and air conditioning.
Because the rooms are essentially the same size, choosing between IR1 and IR2 should largely come down to where you want to be on the ship.
Lower and midship decks can put you closer to restaurants, bars, the theater and other indoor public spaces. Higher decks make it easier to reach the buffet, pools, gym and outdoor areas.
For travelers who mostly use their cabin to sleep, shower and change clothes, an interior cabin remains the least expensive way to cruise on MSC Poesia. For four passengers sharing a cabin, however, approximately 151 square feet is going to feel considerably tighter than it does for two.
Ocean View Cabins on MSC Poesia
MSC Poesia’s ocean view cabins measure approximately 172 square feet, giving you slightly more interior space than a standard Deluxe Balcony cabin, although without the outdoor space.
There are three categories.
Deluxe Ocean View OR1 cabins are located on Deck 5, while Deluxe Ocean View OR2 cabins are found on Deck 8. Both offer a sea view through a window and can accommodate up to four guests.
There is also an OO Deluxe Ocean View with Obstructed View category on Deck 8.
The obstructed-view cabin can make sense when it is priced noticeably lower than an unobstructed ocean view. You still get natural light and the larger ocean view cabin footprint, but you should not book one expecting an unrestricted view of the water.
If the price difference is small, we would generally lean toward the normal OR1 or OR2 Ocean View cabin instead.
Deluxe Balcony Cabins
MSC Poesia’s Deluxe Balcony cabins are BR1 and BR2.
Both measure approximately 161 square feet inside and have balconies of around 54 square feet.
BR1 cabins are located on Decks 8 and 9, while BR2 cabins are on Decks 10 through 12.
One important detail is that MSC lists these standard Deluxe Balcony cabins as accommodating only two passengers. If you are traveling with three or four people, you will need to look toward the larger Premium Balcony, partial-view balcony or Aurea categories.
For a couple, however, the Deluxe Balcony is likely to be one of the sweet spots on the ship. You get a private balcony without paying for additional interior space you might not need.
At roughly 161 square feet, these cabins are not especially large by the standards of newer cruise ships. MSC Poesia originally entered service in 2008, and its standard accommodations reflect the more compact cabin designs common to that generation of cruise ship.
Still, for two passengers, the combination of a sitting area, sofa and private balcony should provide enough room for most cruisers.
Premium Balcony Cabins
The Premium Balcony is where things get more interesting.
Premium Balcony BL1 and BL2 cabins measure approximately 194 square feet inside, compared with around 161 square feet for a Deluxe Balcony.
The balconies themselves are about the same size at roughly 54 square feet.
BL1 cabins are on Decks 8 and 9, while BL2 cabins are located on Decks 10 through 12. Both can accommodate up to four passengers.
That additional 33 square feet represents roughly 20% more interior room than you get in a Deluxe Balcony.
For two people, the extra room is certainly nice. For three or four people, it becomes much more valuable.
If you are comparing a Deluxe Balcony and Premium Balcony and the fare difference is relatively small, the Premium Balcony is one of the upgrades we would seriously consider on MSC Poesia.
You are actually buying a larger room, not just a different category name.
Deluxe Balcony with Partial View
MSC also offers the BP Deluxe Balcony with Partial View category on Deck 12.
These cabins measure approximately 194 square feet with a balcony of around 54 square feet, making them essentially Premium Balcony-sized rooms from a space standpoint.
They can also accommodate up to four passengers.
The tradeoff is right there in the name: the balcony has a partial view.
This is a category where we would look carefully at the individual cabin and deck plan before booking.
That said, it could be an interesting value category.
If a BP cabin costs noticeably less than an unobstructed Premium Balcony, you could get the larger 194-square-foot interior and a private outdoor space while sacrificing some of the view.
For passengers who care more about fresh air and having a balcony than staring uninterrupted at the horizon, that may be an easy trade to make.
Deluxe Balcony Aurea
Deluxe Balcony Aurea cabins measure approximately 194 square feet with approximately 54-square-foot balconies.
They are located on Decks 9 through 11 and can accommodate up to four passengers.
From a physical cabin-size standpoint, they are much closer to a Premium Balcony than to the smaller Deluxe Balcony rooms.
The major reason to select the BA category is therefore not that you are getting a dramatically larger cabin than Premium Balcony. It is the combination of the cabin, location and the Aurea experience attached to the booking.
MSC changes package and experience inclusions periodically, so it is worth comparing the current Aurea benefits for your particular sailing rather than assuming an older list of perks still applies.
If you are choosing purely based on cabin size, a Premium Balcony and Deluxe Balcony Aurea are very similar. If you value the current Aurea benefits, the calculation changes.
MSC Yacht Club Cabins on MSC Poesia
MSC Yacht Club changes the upper end of the Poesia cabin lineup considerably.
There are 69 Yacht Club suites with 24-hour butler service. Yacht Club also has dedicated spaces including its own concierge, restaurant, Top Sail Lounge, Bar & Grill and sundeck.
There are four Yacht Club accommodation categories, and they are quite different from one another.
MSC Yacht Club Interior Suite
The Yacht Club Interior Suite, category YIN, is one of the most interesting rooms on MSC Poesia.
It measures approximately 215 square feet and is located on Deck 14. It accommodates two passengers.
That means the Yacht Club Interior is actually larger than any of the ship’s standard balcony cabins, even though it doesn’t have a balcony of its own.
For travelers who want the Yacht Club experience but don’t place much value on having private outdoor space, this could be an attractive option.
You still have access to Yacht Club’s dedicated outdoor areas, Top Sail Lounge and other private spaces while paying for an interior suite rather than one of the balcony accommodations.
MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Suite
The YC1 Yacht Club Deluxe Suite is the more conventional Yacht Club balcony choice.
MSC lists these suites at approximately 258 to 323 square feet, with balconies ranging from roughly 43 to 65 square feet.
They are located on Deck 15 and accommodate up to four passengers.
Yacht Club suites include upgraded touches such as premium interiors, a more spacious wardrobe, marble bathroom, premium linens, bathrobes and slippers. Wi-Fi is also listed as included in the Yacht Club accommodations.
For most passengers who want the full Yacht Club experience with their own balcony, the YC1 will likely be the starting point.
MSC Yacht Club Two-Room Grand Suite
The YCL Two-Room Grand Suite adds something especially valuable for families: separation.
These suites measure approximately 301 square feet with a balcony of around 97 square feet and are located across Decks 11 through 15.
MSC lists a master bedroom along with a separate living room. The sofa in the living room converts into a double bed, allowing the suite to accommodate up to four passengers.
That separate living area makes the YCL considerably more practical for a family than simply putting additional beds into one larger room.
Parents can have a separate sleeping space, and the roughly 97-square-foot balcony is also significantly larger than the balconies attached to most cabins on MSC Poesia.
MSC Yacht Club Royal Suite with Whirlpool Bath
At the very top of the Poesia cabin lineup is the YC3 Yacht Club Royal Suite with Whirlpool Bath.
The numbers are impressive.
The interior measures approximately 506 square feet, but the private terrace is even larger at roughly 840 square feet.
The terrace includes a private whirlpool, outdoor shower, dining table, chairs and sun loungers.
Inside is a master bedroom, a separate second bedroom and a separate living area with a sofa bed and dining table.
This isn’t simply a larger version of a normal balcony cabin. It is an entirely different type of accommodation.
Best MSC Poesia Cabin for Couples
For most couples, we think the Deluxe Balcony BR1 or BR2 is likely to offer the best balance.
You get a private balcony without paying for the additional space of a Premium Balcony, and the cabin is designed specifically around one or two passengers.
If the Premium Balcony upgrade isn’t expensive, however, the roughly 20% increase in interior space is worth considering.
For couples who spend a lot of time in their cabin, we would lean Premium. If your cabin is primarily a base between meals, activities and ports, Deluxe Balcony should do the job.
Best MSC Poesia Cabin for Families
Among the standard accommodations, Premium Balcony BL1 or BL2 is one of the stronger choices for families.
The cabin is around 194 square feet, accommodates up to four passengers and gives everyone access to a private balcony.
Interior and ocean view cabins can also accommodate four passengers, but the extra usable space of the Premium Balcony becomes increasingly valuable as you add people.
At the luxury end, the Yacht Club Two-Room Grand Suite is much better suited to families who want more separation between sleeping and living areas.
Best MSC Poesia Cabin for Extra Space
If you want additional room without moving into Yacht Club, look closely at Premium Balcony.
The jump from approximately 161 square feet in a Deluxe Balcony to around 194 square feet in Premium Balcony is meaningful.
The BP partial-view balcony and BA Aurea balcony also offer approximately 194 square feet.
This is an area where MSC’s naming can make the cabin lineup look more complicated than it actually is. From a room-size standpoint, Premium Balcony, Deluxe Balcony with Partial View and Deluxe Balcony Aurea all sit in roughly the same tier.
Best Value Way to Try MSC Yacht Club
The Yacht Club Interior Suite could be the sleeper pick of the Poesia cabin lineup.
At approximately 215 square feet, it is larger than a Premium Balcony cabin. You give up your own private balcony, but you still receive access to the Yacht Club’s private facilities.
For a passenger who spends more time in the Top Sail Lounge, Yacht Club restaurant and private sundeck than sitting on a cabin balcony, that trade could make a lot of sense.
The key will be pricing. If the Yacht Club Interior is substantially less expensive than the Yacht Club Deluxe Suite, it deserves serious consideration.
Cabins to Check Carefully Before Booking
We wouldn’t say there are categories on MSC Poesia that everyone should avoid, but there are a few situations where you should pay closer attention before choosing a cabin.
The Ocean View OO category comes with an obstructed view, while the BP Balcony category has a partial view. In both cases, make sure the savings are worthwhile to you.
Location matters as well. When possible, check the decks immediately above and below your cabin. Cabins sandwiched between other cabin decks generally remove some of the uncertainty that comes with being directly beneath a busy public space.
We would also pay particular attention when booking cabins near the upper outdoor decks if noise is a major concern. Poesia’s pool areas, buffet, children’s spaces, gym and other heavily used venues are concentrated on the upper decks.
That doesn’t automatically make nearby cabins bad. It simply makes the exact location more important.
Accessible Cabins on MSC Poesia
MSC Poesia has 17 cabins designed for guests with disabilities or reduced mobility.
Accessible accommodations are available in several major cabin groups, including Interior, Ocean View, Balcony and MSC Yacht Club.
MSC lists features such as wider doors, a fold-down shower seat, grab rails and accessible bathroom layouts. The ship’s elevators also use visual, audio and Braille deck indicators.

vel advisor to make sure both the cabin and the surrounding ship areas meet their needs.
How We Would Choose an MSC Poesia Cabin
For two people watching the budget, an interior or Deluxe Balcony makes plenty of sense.
If you want a balcony and the upgrade isn’t too expensive, the Premium Balcony is probably the standard cabin category we would watch most closely. The additional interior space is real, and it becomes even more important when more than two people are sharing the room.
For families, Premium Balcony is a much more natural fit than the smaller two-person Deluxe Balcony.
If you want Yacht Club, the Interior Suite presents an intriguing way to gain access to the Yacht Club experience without paying for a Yacht Club balcony. At the other end of the spectrum, the Two-Room Grand Suite and enormous Royal Suite provide accommodations that are fundamentally different from Poesia’s traditional cabins.
The biggest piece of advice is not to book based on the category name alone. On MSC Poesia, a “Premium” Balcony really is larger than a “Deluxe” Balcony, while the Aurea and partial-view categories introduce different tradeoffs without necessarily giving you more interior space.
Compare the actual cabin dimensions, capacity, location and price, and it becomes much easier to find the Poesia cabin that makes the most sense for your cruise.
