MSC Grandiosa offers several noticeably different pool experiences. Passengers can choose between the lively Atmosphere Pool, the covered Safari Pool and the adults-only Horizon Pool overlooking the wake. Families also have access to the Wild Forest Aquapark, while MSC Yacht Club guests receive a separate private pool deck.
MSC lists Grandiosa as having four swimming pools and nine whirlpools. The four-pool total includes the private MSC Yacht Club Pool, so most passengers have access to three recreational pools.
Grandiosa’s retractable-roof Safari Pool is particularly valuable on cooler or rainy cruises. However, passengers should know that the ship’s swimming pools are not heated. The covered pool may be protected from wind and weather, but that does not guarantee warm water.

The pools, whirlpools and waterpark may close because of weather, wind, maintenance or cleaning. Operating hours can also change from one day to the next.
Atmosphere Pool
Atmosphere Pool is Grandiosa’s main outdoor swimming pool. It is located on deck 15 and serves as the center of the ship’s daytime pool-deck activity.
The large open deck includes the main swimming pool, nearby whirlpools, loungers and additional seating on the deck above. A large video screen overlooks the area.
This is also where the entertainment team may hold activities such as:
- Pool games
- Dance classes
- Trivia
- Music
- Sail-away celebrations
- Family activities
- Other daytime events
Atmosphere Pool is the best choice if you want a traditional cruise ship pool deck with music and activity. It is not the best location for passengers looking for a quiet place to read or relax.
The pool area can become busy during sea-day afternoons. Loungers immediately beside the pool fill first, but there are additional loungers and elevated seating areas on deck 16.
Atmosphere Bar North and Atmosphere Bar South are located nearby, making it easy to get drinks without leaving the pool deck. Casual food and soft-serve ice cream may also be available around the pool during selected hours.
The area becomes quieter once passengers begin preparing for dinner. This can be a good time to use the pool or one of the nearby whirlpools, assuming they are still open.
Safari Pool
Safari Pool is located on deck 15 and is covered by a retractable glass roof.
The roof can be opened during pleasant weather and closed when conditions are cold, rainy or windy. This makes Safari Pool one of Grandiosa’s biggest advantages over ships that only offer outdoor swimming areas.
Safari Pool is especially useful during:
- Cooler-weather cruises
- Rainy days
- Windy sea days
- Winter sailings
- Days when the outdoor decks are uncomfortable
The area includes the main pool, surrounding seating, nearby whirlpools and Safari Bar. Marketplace Buffet is also nearby, making Safari Pool convenient for families who want to combine swimming with lunch or snacks.
Safari Pool is open to families. We are not aware of any scheduled adults-only hours for this pool, although passengers should always follow the current signage and onboard instructions.
When the roof is closed, the room can feel warm and humid even though the pool itself is not heated. Sound also carries more noticeably in the enclosed space.
Safari Pool can become the busiest pool on the ship during poor weather. If rain is expected, try visiting earlier in the day before most passengers move inside.
Is the Safari Pool an indoor pool?
Safari Pool is best described as an indoor-outdoor pool.
Its retractable roof allows MSC to enclose the area during poor weather and open it when conditions are favorable. When the roof is closed, passengers have a protected swimming area even if the outdoor pools are unusable.
The area is not climate-controlled in the same way as a traditional indoor hotel pool, and the water is not heated. However, protection from wind can make it more comfortable than the outdoor pools.
Horizon Pool
Horizon Pool is located at the back of deck 16 and overlooks the ship’s wake.
Unlike Atmosphere Pool, Horizon Pool is designated as adults-only. Signs near the pool identify the age restriction, making this Grandiosa’s best public pool option for adults looking for a calmer atmosphere.
The pool is smaller than Atmosphere Pool, but the aft location provides excellent ocean and wake views. Tiered seating around the Horizon Amphitheatre creates additional places to relax and watch the scenery.
Horizon Pool is particularly appealing for:
- Quiet pool time
- Watching sail-away
- Wake views
- Sunset views
- Relaxing on port days
- Escaping main-pool activities
Although it is generally quieter, the space is still part of the Horizon Amphitheatre. Music or scheduled activities may occasionally change the atmosphere.
The aft deck can also become windy while the ship is moving. On particularly windy days, Safari Pool may be the more comfortable option.
Passengers traveling with children should plan to use Atmosphere Pool, Safari Pool or Wild Forest Aquapark instead.
MSC Yacht Club Pool and sundeck
MSC Yacht Club guests have access to a private pool and sundeck at the front of deck 19.
The area includes:
- A private swimming pool
- A whirlpool
- Loungers
- Open sundeck space
- MSC Yacht Club Grill & Bar
- Poolside drink service
- Wide forward-facing ocean views
The Yacht Club Pool is smaller than Grandiosa’s main public pools. Its biggest advantage is the private setting and the limited number of passengers using the deck.
Food and standard Yacht Club drinks from the nearby Grill & Bar are included for Yacht Club guests. Access to the area is controlled and is not available to passengers simply because they purchased a spa treatment or another onboard package.
Because the sundeck is open to the sky, it can become hot, sunny and windy. There is no full retractable roof comparable to the one over Safari Pool.
Top 19 Exclusive Solarium
Top 19 Exclusive Solarium is a private outdoor relaxation area on deck 19.
It is primarily a sundeck rather than another swimming pool. The area includes premium loungers, open deck space and a whirlpool, but it does not have a full recreational pool.
Access is generally provided to eligible Aurea guests. MSC has changed some Aurea benefits over time, so check the benefits attached to your specific reservation rather than assuming access is included with every booking.
Top 19 should not be confused with the MSC Yacht Club sundeck. Yacht Club guests have their own private pool area at the front of the ship.
Top 19 is a good option for eligible passengers who want quieter sunbathing and easier access to a whirlpool without using the main pool deck. Because it is an outdoor area, it is still exposed to sun, wind and weather.
MSC Grandiosa hot tubs and whirlpools
MSC advertises nine whirlpools across Grandiosa.
These are distributed among the main public pool areas and restricted-access spaces such as Top 19 and the MSC Yacht Club sundeck. This means that not every passenger has access to all nine.
Public whirlpools are included in the cruise fare. You do not need a spa pass to use the hot tubs located around Atmosphere Pool, Safari Pool or Horizon Pool.
The whirlpools can become crowded during sea-day afternoons. Better times to visit include:
- Early morning
- While most passengers are ashore
- Late afternoon
- During popular dinner times
- During major theater performances
MSC may temporarily close individual whirlpools for cleaning or maintenance. Posted capacity and age restrictions should always be followed.
The whirlpools should not be confused with the therapeutic water facilities inside MSC Aurea Spa, which require separate access.
Wild Forest Aquapark
Wild Forest Aquapark is located toward the back of deck 19.
The jungle-themed waterpark contains three large waterslides along with a family splash area and interactive water features. It is included in the cruise fare, so passengers do not need to purchase a Fun Pass or separate waterpark admission.
The slides are intended for both children and adults who meet the posted requirements. They provide a much more active experience than Grandiosa’s regular swimming pools.
Waterpark operating hours are usually shorter than pool hours. The slides may also close because of:
- High winds
- Lightning
- Rough weather
- Maintenance
- Port operations
- Staffing or safety considerations
Do not wait until the final day of the cruise to try the slides. If weather causes a closure, you may not get another opportunity.
The best strategy is to complete the waiver process early in the cruise and use the waterpark when you see it operating.
Waterslide height and weight restrictions
Grandiosa’s waterslides have height and weight restrictions, but the exact limits may vary by slide and can change.
MSC does not consistently publish Grandiosa-specific restrictions before the cruise. Check the signs near Wild Forest Aquapark once onboard.
Do not assume that a child who can ride one slide will automatically qualify for every slide. Different attractions may have different height, weight or rider-position requirements.
Waterpark staff have final authority over who can ride. The rules are intended to account for the design, speed and safe operation of each slide.
Waterslide waivers and wristbands
Passengers must sign a waiver and receive a wristband before using Grandiosa’s major waterslides.
MSC generally sets up the waiver and wristband station near the waterslide area. A parent or guardian will need to complete the process for a minor.
Once the waiver has been completed, staff issue a wristband showing that the passenger has been cleared to ride. Staff may check height and other eligibility requirements before issuing the wristband or allowing access to an individual slide.
Complete this process before the busiest sea-day period. Waiting until midafternoon can mean standing in a waiver line before you can even join the line for a slide.
Other rules may require riders to remove:
- Glasses
- Loose jewelry
- Cameras
- Phones
- Other unsecured items
Appropriate swimwear is required, and staff may restrict clothing or accessories that could interfere with the slide.
Children’s splash and water-play area
Wild Forest Aquapark includes a shallow water-play area for younger children.
Depending on which features are operating, children may find:
- Spray jets
- Water cannons
- Small slides
- Dumping water features
- Climbing structures
- Shallow splash areas
This gives families an alternative for children who are not tall enough for the major waterslides.
Parents must remain responsible for their children. The splash area is not a supervised kids club, and waterpark staff should not be treated as babysitters.
MSC does not allow children wearing diapers in its pools or water-play areas. This includes swim diapers. Families with babies or toddlers who are not fully toilet trained should not expect to use the splash area.
Himalayan Bridge ropes course
The Himalayan Bridge is suspended above Wild Forest Aquapark.
This is a dry ropes course rather than a water attraction, but it is one of the most visible features in the area. Participants wear a safety harness and cross a series of elevated obstacles high above the ship.
The ropes course is included in the cruise fare, but participants must meet the posted requirements. Closed-toe shoes are required.
The Himalayan Bridge is particularly sensitive to wind and may close even while some other outdoor attractions remain open. If it is operating and you want to try it, do not assume it will still be available later in the cruise.
Aurea Spa water facilities
MSC Aurea Spa is located on deck 7 and includes therapeutic water facilities as part of its thermal area.
These facilities are designed for relaxation rather than recreational swimming. They are not included in MSC’s advertised count of four swimming pools.
Access generally requires one of the following:
- A thermal-area pass
- An eligible spa package
- Qualifying Aurea benefits
- MSC Yacht Club benefits
Exact access depends on the benefits attached to your reservation. A standard cruise booking does not include unlimited use of the spa’s thermal facilities.
Are MSC Grandiosa’s pools heated?
No. MSC Grandiosa’s swimming pools are not heated.
This is important on cooler-weather sailings or cruises with several cloudy days. Even Safari Pool can feel cool because its retractable roof protects the area from wind but does not heat the water.
Passengers who are sensitive to cold water may find the whirlpools more comfortable.
Pool hours
Pool and waterpark hours change by day and itinerary.
Pools usually operate for longer periods than the waterslides. Hours may be affected by:
- Weather
- Wind
- Cleaning
- Maintenance
- Port schedules
- Evening activities
- Safety requirements
Check the MSC for Me app, daily program and signs posted near each pool for the current schedule.
Safari Pool may remain available when weather makes the outdoor pools uncomfortable, but MSC can still close it for maintenance or safety reasons.
Pool towels
MSC provides pool towels, so passengers do not need to pack beach towels for use onboard.
Depending on the sailing, towels may be placed in your cabin or distributed near the pool deck. Keep track of the towels assigned to your cabin because MSC may charge for towels that are not returned.
Pool towels can also generally be taken ashore for beach visits, but they should be brought back to the ship.

Sun loungers
Sun loungers around the pools are included in the cruise fare.
The most desirable loungers beside Atmosphere Pool fill quickly on sea days. Additional seating can usually be found:
- On deck 16 above Atmosphere Pool
- Around Safari Pool
- Near Horizon Pool
- On other open upper decks
- At Top 19 for eligible Aurea guests
- On the private Yacht Club sundeck for Yacht Club passengers
MSC asks passengers not to reserve loungers for extended periods when they are not actively using them. Belongings may be removed from chairs left unattended beyond the posted time limit.

Grandiosa carries a large number of passengers, but the different pool areas help distribute crowds.

Pool rules families should know
Families should understand several important rules before using Grandiosa’s pool areas:

The most important planning details are easy to overlook. Grandiosa’s pools are not heated, MSC does not provide pool life jackets and children wearing diapers cannot use the pools or splash areas.
