MSC Grandiosa offers an impressive collection of activities for families, including five age-based youth clubs, a large water park, an included ropes course, an indoor sports complex, two full-size bowling lanes and a variety of arcade games and simulators.
One of the ship’s biggest advantages for families is how its major attractions are concentrated across the upper aft decks. The Sportplex and amusement area are on Deck 16, the Doremiland youth clubs are on Deck 18 and the Wild Forest Aquapark and Himalayan Bridge are directly above them on Deck 19.
This makes it relatively easy for families to move between the kids clubs, sports court, water slides and paid amusement attractions without crossing the entire ship.
The kids-club facilities are a good size, with separate areas for the different age groups. Grandiosa also provides plenty for families to do together, which is important for children who do not want to spend their cruise in supervised programming.

Is MSC Grandiosa good for families?
MSC Grandiosa is a strong choice for families, particularly those traveling with school-age children, tweens or teenagers.
The ship has enough variety to keep different age groups entertained without requiring everyone to participate in the same activity. Younger children can use the LEGO-themed kids clubs and smaller water-play area, while older children and teens can move between the water slides, Sportplex, Himalayan Bridge, arcade and bowling.
Grandiosa is also a good family ship because it offers a mix of supervised and unsupervised activities.
Children can spend part of the day in Doremiland while parents visit the spa, enjoy a quiet meal or relax elsewhere on the ship. Families can then meet for the water park, ropes course, bowling, dinner or an evening show.
The ship does not have some of the newest family attractions found on MSC World America, but Grandiosa still offers one of the more balanced family experiences in the MSC fleet.
Where are the kids clubs on MSC Grandiosa?
MSC Grandiosa’s Doremiland youth facilities are located toward the back of Deck 18.
The youth area includes separate spaces for the different age groups rather than placing everyone in one large room. On our visit, the overall kids-club facility appeared to be a good size.

The age separation helps MSC provide more appropriate programming for preschoolers, elementary-age children, tweens and older teens.

Grandiosa’s family area was originally developed around a “Ship of Music” theme in partnership with LEGO and Chicco. Some of the advertised experiences have included LEGO Movie Maker, Nintendo activities, Doremi Studio, Webstar Room and Doremi Lab.
Not every branded activity will appear on every cruise. Families should check the youth program after boarding to see which rooms, events and technology-based activities are being used during their sailing.
MSC Grandiosa kids-club age groups
MSC Grandiosa divides its supervised youth programming into five age groups:
- Baby Club Chicco: Under 3
- Mini Club LEGO: Ages 3-6

The clubs are staffed by trained, multilingual youth personnel. Most scheduled programming is included in the cruise fare.

Baby Club Chicco for children under 3
Baby Club Chicco is designed for babies and toddlers under 3.
The club uses toys and equipment developed through MSC’s partnership with Chicco. Activities focus on music, movement, sensory play and age-appropriate games.
MSC offers two different services for babies and toddlers.
MSC Baby Time allows parents to enter the Baby Club with their children during designated sessions. Parents remain responsible for supervising their children.
MSC Baby Care allows parents to leave an eligible child with the youth staff during scheduled periods. Children must be at least six months old to participate in the supervised drop-off service.
Baby Care:
- Is available for babies from six months to under 3
- Can be offered for up to eight hours per day
- Has a maximum capacity of 15 babies
- Is available during designated time slots
- Costs extra
Reservations may be required because of the limited capacity. Parents should visit the club shortly after boarding to confirm availability, current pricing and the reservation process.
MSC Baby Time is the better option for parents who want to introduce a younger baby or hesitant toddler to the space without leaving them immediately.

Mini Club LEGO for ages 3-6
Mini Club LEGO is designed for children ages 3-6.
The space may offer:

Children in this age group often enjoy having a space that feels separate from the older kids and teens.

Junior Club LEGO for ages 7-11
Junior Club LEGO serves children ages 7-11.
This may be the age group that gets the most use from Grandiosa’s complete family lineup. Children are old enough for many of the water slides and active attractions while still being young enough to enjoy the organized kids-club programming.

This is an important distinction because children in this age group may no longer be interested in traditional kids-club activities but may not be ready to socialize with older teenagers.

The club serves as both an activity center and a place for tweens to meet other passengers their age.

Teen Club for ages 15-17
Teen Club is for passengers ages 15-17.
The Teen Club is better viewed as a supervised social space than traditional childcare.

Older teens may divide their time between Teen Club, Sportplex, the arcade, bowling, the pools and activities around Galleria Grandiosa.
MSC’s U.S. policy also requires passengers under 18 to be accompanied by an adult after 1 a.m. The ship can impose additional curfews when necessary.
When are the MSC Grandiosa kids clubs open?
The kids clubs are generally open every day, but exact hours vary by itinerary and age group.

Wild Forest Aquapark
Wild Forest Aquapark is MSC Grandiosa’s main outdoor water-play area.
The water park is located toward the back of Deck 19, immediately above the Doremiland area. It includes three larger waterslides and a separate water-play area for younger children.
The larger slides include:
- One body slide that sends riders into a bowl, where they spin around before reaching the end
- Two traditional waterslides that riders use with inflatable tubes
The body slide provides a different experience from the two tube slides. Riders enter without a raft and circle the bowl section near the end of the ride.
The two tube slides are better for passengers who prefer a more traditional waterslide experience.
The younger children’s area includes water-play features and a smaller slide. This gives children who do not meet the requirements for the larger slides a place to play.
Use of the water park is included in the cruise fare.
Height and safety restrictions apply to individual slides. These requirements can differ between the body slide and tube slides, so parents should check the signs before promising children that they can ride everything.
The water park can become busy on sea days. Lines are often shorter:
- Shortly after the water park opens
- While many passengers are eating lunch
- During popular daytime events
- While the ship is in port
- Later in the afternoon as families begin preparing for dinner
Slide operations can be affected by wind, weather, sea conditions and maintenance. It is common for an individual slide to be temporarily unavailable even when the rest of the water park is open.
Himalayan Bridge
Himalayan Bridge is one of Grandiosa’s best included family attractions. The ropes-style course is located high above the back of the ship and follows a circular track containing approximately a dozen obstacles.
Each obstacle offers two possible routes. One is easier, while the other provides more of a challenge.
This allows children and adults with different comfort levels to complete the course together. A hesitant participant can take the easier route while another member of the family attempts the more difficult version of the same obstacle.
The course includes suspended steps, bridges and balance challenges. Participants wear safety equipment and remain connected to the course.
We found Himalayan Bridge to be a lot of fun. It offers enough variety to feel exciting without requiring every participant to complete the most difficult version of each obstacle.
Use of Himalayan Bridge is included in the cruise fare.
MSC lists the following general requirements:
- Minimum height of 48 inches
- Maximum weight of 300 pounds
- Closed-toe shoes
- Compliance with all safety instructions
The attraction can close because of wind, rain or other weather conditions. Try to use it early in the cruise instead of waiting until the final sea day.
Families should also bring athletic shoes. Passengers wearing sandals or flip-flops are not be permitted to participate.
Sportplex
MSC Grandiosa’s Sportplex is located toward the back of Deck 16.
This large, enclosed sports court can be used for different games and scheduled events, including:

- Volleyball
- Sports tournaments
- Kids-club activities
- Family competitions
- Open play
The exact schedule changes throughout the cruise.
Sportplex is particularly useful when the weather is poor or the water park is closed. Its enclosed design gives active children and teenagers another place to burn off energy without relying on the outdoor decks.

Bowling on MSC Grandiosa
MSC Grandiosa has two full-size bowling lanes.
This is a much more complete bowling experience than the mini-bowling attractions found on some other MSC ships.

Formula Racer places the participant in a racing simulator inspired by a Formula 1 car.
The simulator is fun for teenagers and adults, but a minimum height requirement applies. MSC’s published height information has varied between different pages and terms, so passengers should follow the requirement posted onboard.
Check the restriction before purchasing a Fun Pass specifically for a child who wants to use Formula Racer.
XD Dark Ride Cinema
The XD Dark Ride Cinema combines a moving or interactive theater experience with on-screen action.

It is not an unlimited-use pass.
A Fun Pass can be linked to one guest account but used by eligible members of the same family or cabin. Each attraction deducts its normal charge from the available balance.
Once the credit is gone, additional play is charged to the onboard account.

Safari Pool
Safari Pool is one of the best family pool areas on MSC Grandiosa.
It has a sliding roof that can cover the area during poor weather. This makes it a useful alternative when the outdoor pool deck or water park is uncomfortable or closed.
We saw many families using Safari Pool, and it worked particularly well as a bad-weather option.
The covered environment does mean it can become crowded when conditions outside are poor. Families may have better luck visiting earlier in the morning, during lunch or while other passengers are ashore.
Safari Pool is also a convenient choice for families who want to swim without spending a full afternoon in the more exposed Atmosphere Pool area.
Can babies use the pools or water park?
MSC does not allow babies or toddlers wearing diapers in its pools or water areas.
This includes swim diapers.
Parents should not assume that the younger children’s water-play area is exempt from the policy. MSC’s current rule states that babies wearing diapers are not allowed in the water for hygiene reasons.
Families traveling with a baby should plan other playtime options, including Baby Club Chicco and Baby Time sessions.

MSC may allow parents to leave a registered child with the youth staff while the adults go ashore.
However, parents must notify the miniclub staff at least one day before the excursion. The arrangement must be approved by the onboard staff.
Parents should not assume that normal kids-club registration automatically gives them permission to leave the ship.
